National conference 1990 v1 n1
Conference Update:
STOP PRESS
Conference 1990 has had its dates changed by two days. It will now start on Tuesday evening, 28th August.
The venue is the Wellington College of Education in Karori. Karori is one of Wellington’s oldest and larger suburbs and is well served by public transport. There will be some accommodation available near the College at approximately $12.00 per night, board only. We are currently looking into the cost of catering, and a tariff for full board will be worked out soon.
It is hoped that we will be able to attract at least 12 overseas tutors of “note” in the hope that all New Zealand teachers and tutors will be able to observe and participate in Teacher Training. In addition to the Suzuki Teachers, there will be non-Suzuki Teachers taking classes in reading, orchestra, and relaxation techniques.
The formal teacher training will take place during the afternoon for 3 hours and will include a 1-hour lecture on one of the following topics: psychology, child physiology, early childhood development, and the Alexander Technique. The students will have 3 hours in the morning, followed by a lunchtime concert. Lunchtimes will be from 1 pm to 2 pm for the tutors and 12 noon to 1 pm for students, after the lunchtime concert.
Classes will be framed on the masterclass principle, and it is hoped that each child will have, for at least one class per day, one of the main overseas tutors for the whole conference. There will be group lessons, orchestra groups, and reading groups.
During the afternoons, it may be possible, if demand is sufficient, to arrange tours to areas of interest or to take groups to the various recreational facilities around the city.
Remember the new conference dates: Tuesday, August 28th to Sunday, September 2nd.
We’ll keep you posted.
