Dr. Suzuki’s 1st NZ visit Jan ’89
Dear Editor,
I liked seeing Dr. Suzuki at the workshop. I tried to get an autograph from him, but I couldn’t. I got to the airport to see him come. Mum got a photo of him in his car for me, with my camera. I got to sit near him at the concert. It was the first time I played in a public concert, and it was exciting.

Dear Editor,
After the success of Dr. Suzuki’s visit, how about an annual play-in for kids and parents?

Working together
Dear Editor,
This is a plea for the Suzuki movement in N.Z. The Suzuki Talent Education is a worldwide organization. Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki had this vision and was able to materialize it. Teachers of the world please contribute…
We get stimulated by each other and learn from one another. A few excellent teachers have left the movement in N.Z., but I am sure they are the poorer for it. We need each other, and we must cooperate. If we want to nurture our children with love, then we must cooperate. If we want to nurture our children with love, then we as adults must have that same caring spirit for each other.
I was present at a graduation concert in Matsumoto for Suzuki teachers. I have never been to a concert with a more varied standard of playing. An American lady played “Sicilienne, Rigaudon” by Kreisler (grade 6 Trinity College) was passed, but not the Japanese girl who played the 1st movement of the Tchaikovsky Concerto. This is where the wisdom of the great visionary comes in. We need teachers at every different ability. Kindergarten teachers are as important as university professors.
In the spirit and vision of Dr. Shin’ichi Suzuki.
Yours etc.,
Tania Dyett (Suzuki Teacher),

Seatoun, Wellington.
Positive practice
Dear Editor,
As a new member of the Suzuki Institute, I would like to remark how valuable I found William Starr’s lecture in the Parents’ Column of the March Newsletter. It has turned practice into a more positive time with its element of fun.

Suzuki technique
Dear Editor,
Suzuki Violin Students successfully competed in the Napier Competition Society’s competition last Easter. The adjudicator was impressed with the beautiful tone of these young violinists but commented that she would like to see the bow arm held a little higher, whereupon a small voice offered the explanation that the big tone comes from the bow arm being low.

Suzuki Concert in Waikanae
Dear Editor,
On the first of July, we are having a concert in Waikanae at 6.30pm and a party after it. We will have a practice-a-thon the week before, and prizes will be given out at the concert. Many of the 60 Suzuki students around my area will be playing solos from the Suzuki repertoire.
Happy teaching,
Yours etc.,
Lois Bognuda, BMus, LTCL, LTCL (CM), FTCL
