Winifred Bickerstaff has been a central figure in the Suzuki music community in New Zealand for many years, and her contributions to the development of Suzuki violin teaching in Hawke’s Bay are deeply appreciated.

Winifred’s involvement in Suzuki education began when she first encountered the method and recognized its potential for fostering both musical and personal growth in young children. Since then, she has been a passionate advocate for the Suzuki Method, dedicating her time and energy to teaching, mentoring, and supporting countless students and teachers.

Through her tireless efforts, Winifred has helped to establish a strong and vibrant Suzuki community in Hawke’s Bay. She has been instrumental in organizing workshops, summer camps, and concerts, providing students with valuable opportunities to develop their skills and perform in front of appreciative audiences.

Winifred’s teaching style is characterized by her gentle encouragement, deep knowledge of the violin, and unwavering commitment to her students. She has inspired generations of young musicians, many of whom have gone on to pursue music at a high level. Her influence extends far beyond the technical aspects of violin playing—she has instilled in her students a lifelong love of music and the confidence to express themselves through their instrument.

In recognition of her outstanding contributions to Suzuki education, Winifred was recently honored by the Hawke’s Bay Suzuki community. A special concert was held in her honor, featuring performances by current and former students, all of whom had been touched by her guidance and support.

The New Zealand Suzuki Institute would like to express its gratitude to Winifred for her many years of service and her lasting impact on the Suzuki community. Her legacy will continue to inspire both students and teachers for many years to come.
